The Presidents Word
Evergreen Chapter / Antique Motorcycle Club of America, Inc.

The new century had dawned. I awoke at 6:30 the next morning and ran out to my "37 sport scout, choked it two times, turned the key and the next kick rewarded me with that same beautiful sound. All is well, Y2K had not waived it's evil hand over my motorcycles sophisticated electrical system! The new century faces us with many challenges. Our aging iron is growing older every year with parts getting scarcer. No offense intended to those who collect our machines as museum pieces (there is a place that too) but our members need to get their basket case projects together and on the road! I would personally be glad to help anyone with a needed part if I have it, to get a machine back on the road. I would like to take this opportunity to invite all of our members to attend our monthly meetings. We need this input, particularly the younger members as this is what will fuel us into the future. Through this interaction we may find the needed part or in some cases technical advice to get our iron over some obstacle and into a running machine. I would also encourage all members to reach out with needed spare parts and technical advice, who knows, you might make a few new friends and you can never have enough of those. This year we have many great events coming up,. Our Oregon brothers have a national road run planned, which if it is anything like the last it will be a BLAST! Our club's active racing members will be competing at hill climbs and white knuckle flat track events around the country. If you haven't attended, these have to be seen to be believed. I will be boosting road rides every second weekend (usually Sunday) every month starting in March. These will be based out of Bellingham and will depend on the weather so call first! Lastly I would like to thank Norm Gerlich for the generous use of his shop for our meetings and Christmas banquet, Mike Kane for putting together a delicious Christmas banquet on such short notice (great job mike!), David Cibulka for his great job on the newsletter and computer savvy!, Mike Brown for his innovative ideas and meticulous minutes, Tenino Coordination and club support!, Ron and Sandy Dahlen for keeping our finances accounted for, great riding partners also!, Jerry Chinn for
putting together our road ride with the Model T, Tractor and Antique Airplane clubs, the weather was great!, Roscoe Kollman for his dedication to our hobby and support of the club even when he was up to his eyeballs in work!
THESE people are the mechanics of our club and without them it would drop dead. Thanks and have a great year.
